Intro to Pudgy Pegacorns

Ive started this blog as a spot for all those who collect/are interested in knowing more about those little fakie pegacorns aka Ja-Ru Pegacorns aka Fakie remco pegacorns.
So lets get started:
Firstly a BIG thanks to the walking fakie guide Skimble, who has given me so much help ID-ing my collection. I will be quoting her through-out this blog.

OK so before i go on any further, i'll start with what i know about the various 'generations' of these little guys, mostly info from skimble vast knowledge. (anything in purple is pulled direrctly from skimble)

They first appeared on the scene (in australia at least) in
1993 along with a 'grown up version' in green (image wanted!) These guys had rather large wide heads compared to their newer cousins (images below)

The came back about four years later in
single pony packs (along with a yellow and pink earth fake Remco baby) with an accessory (a purple skirt) in Clints Crazy Bargains (now The Warehouse) and Big W stores.

This next bit is pulled from Skimble again (poor girl) with a few edits for clarity.
There are also , the Toysmith versions (about two to three years old, again), which are - like the vintage ones - of better quality; there are also another release of pegacorn babies - again, sold in Clints Crazy Bargains and The Warehouse stores - around about 1999, which were sold in the same two-pack style as the Coles babies, but were better quality plastic. There were two different pegacorn babies, a really bright green baby with yellow hair; and an orange pegacorn baby, with plain blue hair.

Note when skimble says baby pegacorn, she means the ones this blog is about. i find adults too boring, and actually didnt know they existed until skimble told me. :p

So as you can see, these guys have been around quite some time, and their shape has changed a little since their original release in the early nineties.
Theybe been sold at:
Clints Crazy Bargains -Now the Warehouse,
At service stations under the toysmith brand,
and most recently at Coles + Big W in packs of
2, one rearing earth pony, one 'baby' pegacorn- made by Ja-ru

As far as the US goes, i honestly have no idea about where/who sold them, and if there are any variants. Most of my collection is from there, but it seems the exact same ponies where available here as well as overseas.

Now into ID-ing them.
We will look at:
Paint Quality
Plastic Quality
Mold Shape
Colour combos
First, Moulds!

There are two main moulds as far as i know. the same pose, but slightly differing, as if one was made off the other.

As you can see in the image, the left pony has a wider head than the right one. The left one is also made of firmer plastic.

I believe that the left one is the older version, possible toysmiths? while the right one is from the newer Ja-ru Coles/Big W
2 pack, it came with a pink rearing pony.
The right one also smells, unique, i think its a ja-ru thing.

I think symbols should come next.
Ive noticed that the older ponies have bigger, nicer and shinier symbols than the newer ones.

This is a photo of the
4 'main' symbol variations ive noticed. I use 4 loosely. there may be more.

the top two i believe are older, both share the bent balloon 'arms' but in the left top all the balloons are rounded, and the orange all the balloons are pointed. at first i thought the orange one was a factory error, but i recieved a second pony with pointed big balloons and have decided it is the design.

The two bottom green ones are i believe newer, with the right being the newest, and the left being the older one. (these two pictures come from the
2 green ponies above btw)
It seems newer ones (the ja-ru ponies) have the smallest symbols, as well as the 'arms' are straighter than older ponies.

I'm going to leave it there for today, as my brain just fried itself :p

more info next time!
